Corrective lenses alter the focal length of the pupil to improve ones vision.

Corrective lenses alter the focal length of the pupil to improve ones vision. Convex lenses are used to correct the effects of long-sightedness, hyperopia, and concave lenses to ease the effects of shortsightedness, myopia. The effects of astigmatism are corrected by altering the thickness of the lenses to compensate for the unequal curvature of the eye. It is not uncommon for a person to suffer from astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia. In North America, corrective lenses, also referred to as prescription lenses are made to correspond to the prescription of an Ophthalmologist
or Optometrist.
